Charlaine Harris – Big Time Novelist Of Today

Charlaine Harris was born on November 25th 1951 in Tunica, Mississippi. She holds the accolade of being a New York Times bestseller and has been writing now for longer than 20 years. She currently lives with her husband and three children in Magnolia, south Arkansas. Her early literary career was spent writing about ghosts in poetry, after which she wrote about teenage problems and plays. Her greatest success has come from her book writing however.

She published two mystery novels and then wrote the Aurora Teagarden Series, which saw her gain quite a bit of recognition and success. There were several books in this particular series which took her until mid 1990, and then again she came back to write more in the series in late 1990 until 2003.

From 1996 onwards Charlaine Harris then began writing the series named Shakespeare, otherwise known as Lily Bard. “Shakespeare’s Landlord” was the first book from five, while “Shakespeare’s Counselor” concluded the series in 2001.

After finishing with Shakespeare novels she began to write what is by far her best known yet set of books – The Southern Vampire Mysteries. These novels are about a telepathic waitress known as Sookie Stackhouse and based in a small town in Louisiana called Bon Temps. Dead Until Dark – the first one of the series was to win the Anthony Award for Best Paperback Mystery which was in 2001. These books have been released in many countries including United States, United Kingdom, Philippines, Australia, Japan, Germany and France to name a few.

The creator of the hit HBO television series Six Feet Under – Alan Ball – decided to create a further television series based on Sookie Stackhouse and the Southern Vampire Mysteries. The first series – True Blood – premiered in September of 2008, while the second series began in June 2009.

In October of 2001 Charlaine Harris also began writing a further series of books named the Harper Connelly Series, which are writing about a young woman who uses her clairvoyant abilities to find dead people. The last of the current series of four books was released in 2009.
