Constrasting Chinese Astrology Compatibility

Is it possible to compare Chinese astrology to the universal form of astrology that is attached to a zodiac? You may have wondered how they measure up. If you have studied either form of astrology, in any depth, you have probably come away thinking that Chinese astrology compatibility to astrological sun signs is an impossible task.

The basic principles of both universal and Chinese astrology are to identify personality traits based on the timing of a person’s birth. For example, one may be a Virgo on the wheel of the universal astrological zodiac, but may actually be symbolized as a ‘pig’, instead of a virgin or a maiden, because of the lunar year they were born. Viewing oneself as a maiden is one thing, but then finding out that one is a ‘pig’ can be a bit disconcerting.

It would appear that Chinese astrology chooses to observe longer periods of time to make their interpretations, while Occidental forms of astrology use much shorter periods. Possibly, if one could put the two forms of astrology together in a cohesive manner, a new interpretation could be discovered. In fact, many people have been trying to put the two forms of astrology together for quite some time.

Many of us have often heard people describe themselves through their Sun Sign. Someone born between the latter portion of July through the middle portion of August may say, “I am a Leo. A Lion!” The person identifies his or her personality with the traits of a Lion, which has fondly been referred to as The King of the Jungle. Therefore, many Leos tend relate their personalities to the qualities strength and leadership. From a completely simplistic stance, it becomes easier for the Leo remember ‘who they are’, in astrological terms, because the image of The Lion helps them identify with their Sun Sign’s qualities.

Both Chinese and Occidental astrology have the tools necessary to help people look deeper into their own personality traits and determine how they can grow during their journey here on earth. Each form of astrology is based on centuries of study. While the ancient Greeks are associated with bringing much of the symbolism we are familiar with into Occidental forms of astrology, the art of astrology itself is based on the science of astronomy which began long before the ancient Greeks existed. Chinese culture is documented on its own time-line and on its own Chinese lunar calendar and there is no concrete evidence that ancient Chinese astrologers came into contact with ancient Occidental astrologers.

On separate sides of the world two completely contrasting types of astrologers have been working throughout the centuries to use the phases of the planets to help interpret life on earth. There is obvious value in each form of astrology even if the approach to understanding the ‘division of time’ is different.

If you are wondering how being a ‘pig’ and a ‘virginal maiden’ all at the same time can be possible, then you’ll probably want to explore the symbolism of each type of astrology in more depth. Exactly how Chinese astrology compatibility with universal astrology measures up is unclear. While they are each unique in their approach, use different measures of time and different symbols to bring meaning to time and space here on earth, there are many similarities in their interpretation of personality types.
