Remember that wonderful feeling you had when you first signed up to start your home based business, that flutter in your stomach as the excitement of a new opportunity was right there in front of you. Just like that, you had the chance to make great money, spend more time with family and have a residual income to support you for the rest of your life.

At first it was fun to talk to people and hand out flyers and throw parties to promote your new business. But a short time later, you wonder where is the profit? Costs are getting expensive and friends and family steer clear of you at the reunion and you wonder what you can do now.

What happened here? You did everything you were supposed to do, attended seminars and events and you have a great product. You were eager to tell friends what you had and you thought everyone would want it. But you are still spending more than you make.

Networking events

Use the internet to search for ongoing networking events in your community. Given the increase in unemployment rates, there are more people looking for an alternative income source then ever. They are also more approachable than ever. In most communities there are events going on almost every week with people looking to sell their products and find a job or opportunity. But be careful at these events not to oversell your product or service to people, get to know the person you are talking to and see how you can help them before you jump into your pitch. If you are helpful and friendly the chances to build a relationship that turns into an opportunity will go up multifold.

Social Networks on the Internet

This area is one of the fastest growing parts of the internet and the most discussed in the form of tools to grow your business. As with actual in person events, if you make everything about the sale of your products or getting people to sign up as your distributor, you will turn people off faster then a universal remote with a plasma TV. Take your time, use these sites to get to know people. If they like you, trust you and respect you they will come around over time, if they think its a fit. But the last thing they want is another MLMer trying to sell them something. Be a friend, its more fun for you, too.

Other Internet Activities

Using other internet tools to increase your list of prospects without spending money can sometimes even help you make money from the tools themselves. Webinars and eBooks are two examples that will attract people to your business and put money in your pocket as well. This kind of marketing is called attraction marketing. Use the same methods as written up in the two paragraphs above, be friendly and offer aid before you ask for money. Once you’ve gotten a persons trust and interest and they recognize you are not trying to just barge in asking for money, you can broach the subject of your business and get them on board.
