Rabbits may be small in stature, but they have a lot of special needs and requirements that differ from the normal type of pets that we are accustomed to. Rabbit Cage
Ideally, your rabbit’s cage should be at least 4 times larger than your rabbit, but bigger is always better especially if it will spend most of its time inside the cage. The floor of the cage should always be solid. Many rabbit cages are still made with wire floors with pull out pans underneath because it can be cleaned easily, but cages of this type are uncomfortable and my cause sores. Your Rabbits Diet
You need to make sure that you have a pretty much unlimited supply of grass hay for feed such as brome or timothy. Grass hay helps to ensure that your rabbit stays healthy by keeping its intestinal tract clean. As part of its feed, you will also need to keep a supply of rabbit pellets. Younger rabbits (under 6 months old) should eat pellets that contain at least 18% fiber and 15% to 19% protein. As a third part of your rabbits diet, you’re going to need to feed it plenty of dark leafy green vegetables such as collard greens, carrots tops, lettuce, and turnip greens. At least 2 cups of leaves should be given for 6 pounds of rabbit. Give your rabbit a clean and fresh supply of water at all times.
Litter Training
Rabbits have a tendency to use a single part of its cage for littering. Once your pet makes up it’s mind, fill it with pelleted-newspaper litter or timothy hay. You need to make sure that you claim it’s litter box each and every day to keep the odors down.
Cleaning
Take the time to clean your rabbits cage a minimum of one time a week. Place your pet inside an alternate cage or somewhere safe around your house. You need to sweep the floor clean and remove any of the solid waste material. Whenever you clean and scrub the cage floor, make sure that you use soap and warm water.
Handling Your Rabbit
Improper handling of your rabbit can cause injury. Do not pick up the rabbit from it’s ears. When you pick up a rabbit, make sure that you use one hand to support its front legs and the other its back legs.
